Part 3 - Hints
  1. Can you describe a city or village you’ve visited that you found particularly fascinating or picturesque? What made it so special?

I was captivated by the village of Hallstatt, Austria. Nestled beside a serene lake with mountains rising sharply around it, the colorful houses and charming streets felt like stepping into a postcard. The tranquility and natural beauty were simply unforgettable.

  1. Do you prefer to live in a bustling, lively city or a quiet village with fresh air? Why?

I lean towards a bustling city. I thrive on the energy, the variety of cultural experiences, and the career opportunities a city offers. While a quiet village is appealing for a visit, I’d miss the constant stimulation and access to diverse amenities.

Part 3 - Hints
  1. What are some of the environmental problems that cities like Tehran face? How does pollution affect daily life in heavily populated areas?

Tehran struggles significantly with air pollution, mainly from traffic congestion and industrial emissions. This leads to hazy skies, respiratory problems for residents, and a general decrease in quality of life, often requiring people to limit outdoor activities.

  1. In your opinion, what makes a city cosmopolitan? Can you name a cosmopolitan city you’ve visited or would like to visit, and explain why?

To me, a cosmopolitan city is a melting pot of cultures, ideas, and people from all over the world. I’ve always wanted to visit London because it seems to offer an incredible mix of history, innovation, and global perspectives, making it a truly vibrant and diverse place.

Part 3 - Hints
  1. Do you think ancient cities are more interesting than modern cities? Why or why not? Can you give an example of an ancient city that is still bustling today?

Ancient cities definitely spark my curiosity more. The idea of walking the same streets as people from centuries ago, seeing how they lived and built their societies, is incredibly compelling. Athens is a great example of an ancient city that’s still thriving today, offering a continuous link to the past.

Cue Card Sample answer:
Last year, I visited a small city called Kashan, which is located in the central part of Iran. The city is about three hours away from Tehran, the capital city. I went there with my family during the spring holiday to relax and enjoy nature.
Kashan is a picturesque place, with old mud-brick houses and narrow streets that give it an ancient charm. Unlike the bustling cities, this city offers peace and quiet, and you can enjoy the fresh air, which is hard to find in more populated areas. The welcoming locals were very friendly and made us feel at home.
One of the highlights of the visit was exploring the traditional markets where we found local produce, such as fresh herbs and handmade crafts. The trip to the Fin Garden, a historical Persian garden, was also a fascinating experience, and it made me appreciate the beauty of nature even more. Overall, I left Kashan feeling refreshed and calm, far from the environmental problems of the city.
