Past Perfect Continuous

The Past Perfect Continuous Tense in English
Introduction
The Past Perfect Continuous tense describes actions or situations that were ongoing in the past up to a specific point or event. It emphasizes the duration of an activity that was happening before another past event.
1. Definition
The Past Perfect Continuous tense indicates that an action was happening over a period of time in the past, and that it continued up until a certain moment or event in the past. It often relates to duration and continuous activity.
Example:
• She had been studying for three hours before the exam started.
This tells us that she was engaged in studying over a period, and that this activity was still happening up to the time of the exam.
